Indoor Air Quality

Houston's Premier Indoor Air Quality Services

A woman breathing fresh air Is breathing healthier, cleaner, and crisper air something you prioritize in your home? The quality of the air we breathe in our homes is not only important to our comfort, but the health of everyone in our homes as well and complete home comfort is about more than just controlling our indoor temperature, it's also about maintaining a healthy home by improving our home's indoor air quality.

Poor indoor air quality has been linked to many respiratory issues and illnesses and has become a common problem around the globe and one of the EPA's top 5 health concerns because more and more often now are we spending much of our time indoors - It's where we come home to relax and sleep, where we cook our meals, and where we spend time with our family and pets. But in today's modern world of energy efficient home architecture where homes are being built much more air tight in order to conserve energy, not only are we saving money on our utility bills but also allowing all the dust, dander, bacteria, smoke, and chemicals we use to keep our homes clean to accumulate inside our homes and get cycled through our air conditioning systems over and over only for us to breathe. And, without the proper ventilation and filtration the air in our homes can soon become many times more polluted than the outdoor air.

Indoor Air Quality Products At Adams Air we provide a variety of whole home indoor air quality accessories, technologies and improvements for your existing air conditioning system that can help you breathe better and make your indoor air fresher, cleaner, healthier and crisper - Providing not only comfort benefits, but health benefits as well - Our state-of-the art indoor air quality improvements trap and kill viruses, bacteria, mold spores, allergens and other pollutants floating around in your home and keep them out of the air you and your family breathes, and unlike portable air purifiers, our systems install into your current air conditioning system and provide their benefits to your entire home instead of one specific area.

There are many factors that affect the indoor air quality within our homes, namely: Lack of fresh air being taken into our homes and offices, issues controlling indoor temperature, high or low indoor humidity levels, and indoor or outdoor activities that allow pollutants to enter and/or build up in our homes. Depending on the specific problem, there is a specific answer and the indoor air quality experts at Adams Air provide the technologies to filter out each of your air quality concerns, including:

Recent studies performed by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) have ranked indoor air quality hazards into 5 different levels of concern and show that even in the smoggiest cities the air inside most modern homes is usually at least 2 to 5 times more polluted than the air outside.

But how is this possible? There are many reasons for poor indoor air quality, some of which were discovered only recently and include invisible assassins like carbon monoxide and radon, as well as gas-emitting chemicals like formaldehyde used in making modern carpeting, drapery, household cleaners, furniture and building materials. There are also common airborne pollutants such as pollen, viruses, dust, dust mites, and insects that thrive in damp areas where high humidity or standing water can also breed mold, mildew and other microbes.

Much of this problem is attributed to the way modern homes are built—for purposes of energy efficiency, and to be as air-tight as possible. The result is poor ventilation and the consequence is that stale air, laced with contaminants such as: Odors, Chemicals, Irritants – even minuscule insects and insect debris - often becomes trapped in modern homes where it circulates over and over via our air conditioning systems. This can lead to eye irritation, sinus congestion, sneezing, runny nose, stuffiness, colds, flu, headaches, dizziness, outbreaks of allergies and asthma, sore throats, and various other respiratory ailments.

Indoor air pollutants are unwanted, sometimes harmful materials in the air and indoor air pollution is among the top five environmental health risks according to the EPA. Usually the best way to address this risk is to eliminate and control the sources of pollutants through different air purification technologies and ventilate a home with fresh, clean outdoor air - Most residential air conditioning systems do not mechanically take fresh outdoor air into our homes so it is best for every modern home to have a mechanical ventilator installed along-side every HVAC system in order to automatically ventilate stale indoor air and bring in fresh outdoor air in order prevent contaminants, particulates and microbes from ever building up inside our homes to unhealthy levels.

Aside from ventilating our homes of stale air and indoor air pollution, every type of air borne pollutant has it's own filtration and purification methods that are proven most effective at destroying or filtering out respected forms of indoor air pollution. Below is a list of some of the hazardous contaminants commonly found indoors, their source, health hazards, and different means of filtration.

Indoor Air Pollution

Danger Level Agent Source Health Effects Filtration Method
1 Toxic Compounds Formaldehyde, Methylene Chloride, Nitrogen Dioxide, Acetone, Benzene and Toluene - Often brought into the house via building materials, furniture and furnishings (carpets, curtains, etc.) and in certain cleaning products and pesticides. Dizziness, Lethargy, Memory Lapse, Mild Depression, Blurred Vision and Headaches. Long-term exposure can cause cancer and liver damage. Passive Air Purifiers, Active Air Purifiers, HEPA Filtration Systems
2 Infectious Illnesses Influenza Virus, Common Cold Viruses, Streptococcus, Legionella, Pneumococcus and Tuberculosis often brought indoors by Family members, friends and pets which can bring bacteria and viruses in our homes. Sinititus, Upper Respiratory Infections, Throat and Ear Infections, Flu, Pneumonia, Bronchitis. Passive Air Purifiers, Active Air Purifiers, HEPA Filtration Systems, UV Germicidal Lighting Systems
3 Allergens and Particulates Smoke from wood or Tobacco, Dust, Pollen, Pet dander and Insect Debris. Common sources include Wood Stoves, Fire Places, Tobacco Smoking, Vehicle Exhaust, Animal Shedding, Roaches, Mice. Nose and Throat Irritation, Runny Nose, Congestion, Sneezing, Coughing, Wheezing, Asthma Flares. Passive Air Purifiers, Active Air Purifiers, HEPA Filtration Systems
4 Microbial Growth Mold Spores, Fecal Matter from Dust Mites, and Musty Smelling Fungi that thrive in damp environments such as in homes with high levels of humidity and can hide between walls and areas of standing water. Sinus and Respiratory Infections, Asthma Flares, Infertility. Passive Air Purifiers, Active Air Purifiers, HEPA Filtration Systems, UV Germicidal Lighting Systems, Dehumidifier Systems
5 Dangerous Gasses Including oderless and invisible toxic gasses such as Radon and Carbon Monoxide and require special detection methods. Radon is a radioactive gas that naturally emits from the ground and into homes and buildings. Common sources of Carbon Monoxide include fire places, wood stoves, and gas burning appliances that are not properly ventilated such as furnaces, boilers, and cooking stoves. Head Aches, Dizziness, Lung Cancer, Death. Ventilation
